Palaeolithic art

People from last period of Palaeolithic started to create artistic works . First they start to paint the walls and ceilings of their caves with several colours like black, brown and ochre ( polychromatic painting). Palaeolithic paintings were realistic and represented animals  ( horses, deer, bisons...)  
Probably paintings had a magical meaning. Palaeolithic people believed that paintings helped them to hunt big animals.
The most famous Palaeolithic paintings were found in Altamira in the north of Spain and Lascaux in the south of France.


Other artistic works were Portable  Art ( pieces can be moved) made of stone, bone or ivory. The most important pieces of Portable Art were little sculptures called Venus that represented women with big sexual organs .  They were used to promote women fertility.
