Task 1. Ancient Rome: Geography and chronology.
Roman Empire grew up around the Mediterranean Sea so the Romans called it Mare Nostrum.
Rome was the city that created this huge empire. It was located on the banks of the river Tiber in a strategy point of the Italia Peninsula. The Romans conquered the whole Mediterranean Sea from there.
Rome was founded according to the myth by Romulus and Remus in 753 BC, however archeologist sources say that was built on seven hills which had independent hamlets that were unified around 8th and 7th centuries BC.
Rome was conquered by Etruscan , other Italian people, and they changed the hamlets into a big city
Roman history is divided in three stages :

Monarchy , from 753 BC to 509 BC

Republic from 509 to 27 BC

Empire from 27 BC to 476 AD. Octavian Augustus was the first emperor.
The expansion of the Rome was a long process from 500 BC to 235 AD and the Romans spread out from Atlantic sea to the Danube
