Palaeolithic Age: when and where
It was the first period of Prehistory. It begins at the appearance of first hominids and ends with the Neolithic.
The first human beings lived from hunting , fishing and gathering fruit. Palaeolithic people were nomads and lived in caves or wooden huts.
Then society was very simple and they were organised in small tribes with people that belonged to the same family. The eldest people had the main authority in the group.
Palaeolithic is a part of the Stone Age . People made tools and objects of stone. Homo habilis was the first hominid that made his own tools. Most of tools were made out of flint ( silex ) . People of the Palaeolithic made different kinds of tools stone axes, bifaces or arrowheads or bows.
Fire was the most important discovery of the Palaeolithic . It was about 1,5 million ago and make possible cook food, heat caves and protect themselves from wild animals.
They had magical religious beliefs around nature . The believed in spirits and natural forces which helped them in hunting or in other aspects of their life like reproduction or health. They had different rites to ask supernatural beings for help.
They buried the dead probably because they believe in an after life . Dead were buried with their weapons , jewels or other valuable things .
