Egyptian culture (I)
Egyptian created their own writing : hieroglyphic writing . It was a pictographic writing based on symbols . This writing was translate by Champollion, a french archeologist, thanks to the Rosetta Stone.
They developed Mathematics and Astronomy. They created a calendar divided into 365 days of 24 hours each-
Egyptian religious beliefs.
Egyptian were polytheistic and they had a lot of gods. The main god was the Sun and they called Ra, Amun or Aton ( the only god during the religious reform of Akhenaten )
Other important gods were Osiris , Isis, Horus or Anubis.
Egyptian believed in afterlife but the body had to be preserved by means of a process called mummification. The dead`s body was dried by natron and his organs were extracted. After that the body was put in a sarcophagus.
The body was buried with a lot of things which could be necessary in afterlife.
